Vertical Extension | Alloa
We were commissioned to produce concept designs for a client in Alloa, looking to expand their small one-bedroom semi-detached.
The challenge here was the relatively constrained plot size - extending the footprint too much would potentially be considered an over-development by the Local Authority Planners. A traditional loft conversion was not feasible as the existing roof was too small.
Our solution was a small full length extension to the rear and a completely replaced and heightened roof, allowing for the addition of a new stair, two new double bedrooms, a bathroom and a Utility room. We rearranged and opened up the ground floor plan, making it more functional, bright and welcoming.
The forms and materiality of the roof were sympathetically balanced to ensure that the attached neighbour’s house would not be dominated by the expansion, while ensuring that the new space was large enough to conform to spatial requirements.
